Robert Gavshon
Robert migrated to Australia from South Africa in 1978 where he was a partner in one of the largest law firms in that country. In Australia, initially he acted as Group General Counsel and Director of Corporate Affairs with wordwide responsibility for a multinational corporation based in Sydney.
Robert was a significant shareholder in, and served as a Director of a number of companies including Executive Deputy Chairman of Barbeques Galore Ltd, a NASDAQ listed company until its sale to a leading Australian private equity group. He also served as a Director and a founder of Rebel Sport, the largest sporting goods retailer in Australia and New Zealand. He has enjoyed a partnership with Sam Linz for over 35 years.
Robert has gained broad experience in Australasia, USA and Asia. Since the sale of Barbeques Galore, he has been involved in a number of succesful equity ventures where he has also taken Board and advisory roles. More recently, he teamed with Mark Rohald in the education industry where he was a significant shareholder and Chairman of Think: Education Group and Open Colleges until their sale to Seek and Apollo Education Group respectively.
He is widely respected for the extensive community service he has given and occupied leading positions in the Australian not-for-profit sector.
